Spring Fed Family Farms is a family owned and operated small farm in Bristow, Oklahoma focused on nourishing the mind, body, and soil. We practice holistic land management with an emphasis on animal and farmer well-being, because happy farmers raise happy animals and happy pigs make better bacon. We rotationally graze heritage breed pigs through the pastures and woods of our property, letting them root, graze, and wander as nature intended.
Our journey to farming evolved organically as we dove deeper into our personal health journeys which led us to growing our own gardens, realizing that our vegetables would only be as healthy as the soil they were growing in, and learning the importance of animals as a means to help heal and rejuvenate our soil.
Our mission at Spring Fed family farms is to educate, empower, and equip families with the knowledge and products needed in order to nourish and flourish.
Allie is the main pig girl at Spring Fed Family Farms. Through her journey from postpartum depression to being introduced to the concept of food as medicine through her dad, Dr. Jim Meehan’s work, and becoming a passionate advocate for regenerative agriculture, Allie had discovered her true calling. She had found a way to combine her love for animals, her desire to heal herself and others, create community, and her commitment to sustainable living.
"People often ask how I can be a farmer and an animal lover. My response is that people are going to eat meat regardless. My job is to offer a product that honors the nature of the animal, regenerates the environment, and nourishes the consumer. Every pig I raise, I know I'm saving from the conventional model of factory farming and giving them a chance to live a life just as nature intended," Allie.
Allie has been an animal lover all her life. Her first love was dogs, and when she found herself interning at Prairie Creek Farms, a multi-species regenerative farm in Kellyville, Oklahoma, she quickly discovered how similar the species were, and so her love for pigs began. Instead of continuing her career under someone else's direction, Allie and most of her extended family purchased property together and started a pig farm on their family/friend compound.
Allie's decision to start a pig farm was not just driven by her love for animals, but also by passion for sustainable and regenerative farming practices, and a love of good food. She believed that by raising pigs in a holistic and natural way, she could not only provide high-quality, nutrient-dense food for her family and community but also contribute to the health of the land.
With the support of her family and friends, Allie transformed their shared property into a thriving pig farm. They dedicated themselves to creating a nurturing environment for the pigs, ensuring they had ample space to roam and forage, and live their best pig lives. Allie understood that the pigs' well-being was directly linked to the health of the soil, so she implemented rotational grazing practices to prevent overgrazing, stay ahead of the parasite cycle, and maintain the fertility of the land.
As the pig farm flourished, Allie's commitment to using food as medicine grew stronger. She began seeing the interconnectedness of soil health, animal welfare, and human well-being. Allie realized that by raising pigs in a regenerative manner, she was not only producing nourishing food but also contributing to the restoration of a depleted ecosystem on her farm.
Word of Spring Fed Family Farm started to spread, attracting like-minded individuals who shared the vision. Together, they formed a network of farmers, grocery stores, chefs, and health enthusiasts who were dedicated to promoting sustainable food systems and the healing power of nutrient-dense, locally sourced food.
Allie's pig farm became more than just a place to raise animals; it became a hub for education and inspiration, a healing space. She opened her doors to the public, hosting farm tours, kid’s camps, and workshops to teach others about regenerative farming practices and the importance of conscious food choices. Allie firmly believed that by reconnecting people with the land and the animals that nourish us, she could help heal not only their bodies but also their minds and spirits.
